Saichania...

Saichania was an armored herbivore (plant-eater) that lived in the late Cretaceous period around about 80 million years, in what is today southern Mongolia. Saichania's diet is believed to have consisted of tough vegetation - it had a solid hard palate which seems adapted for this purpose.

Saichania was protected from predators with armor that include bony plates on its back, spikes, and a heavy bony growth on its tail which it swing as a club. The animal was about 23 feet long (7 meters) and weighed about 1 ton.

It is belived that Saichania lived in a hot, arid, desert-type environment - and it seems to have possessed a number of adaptations to this environment. Saichania's skull was equipped with complex air passages that would have helped it keep cool. Additionally, it may have a salt gland near its nostrils.

The Super T-rex...!!

  • ‘Tyrannosaurus’ comes from the Greek words meaning ‘tyrant lizard’, while the word ‘rex’ means ‘king’ in Latin.
  • Tyrannosaurus rex is often abbreviated to T-Rex.
  • Tyrannosaurus rex lived in an area of the Earth that now makes up western North America.
  • Tyrannosaurus rex walked on two legs, balancing its huge head with a long and heavy tail that sometimes contained over 40 vertebrae.
  • Tyrannosaurus rex measured up to 13m (42ft) in length, 4m (13ft) at the hip and could weigh up to 7 tons!
  • The skull of a Tyrannosaurus rex alone measured up to 1.5m (5ft) long.
  • The largest tooth of any carnivorous dinosaur found to this date is that of a T-Rex. It is estimated to have been around 30cm (12in) long when including the root.
  • When Tyrannosaurus rex hit around the age of 14 its body size would increase rapidly, putting on around 600kg (1300lb) a year over the next 4 years.
  • Tyrannosaurus rex had small arms that were extremely powerful and featured two clawed fingers.
  • Tyrannosaurus rex lived in the late Cretaceous Period, around 66 million years ago.
  • Because of the lack of concrete evidence, it is difficult for scientists to work out how fast Tyrannosaurus rex could run, with estimates ranging from as low as 17kph (11mph) to as high as 70kph (43mph). Average estimates suggest a max speed of around 40kph (25mph).
  • There is also strong debate about whether Tyrannosaurus rex was a predator or scavenger. It had small arms which would have made it hard to grip prey, suggesting it may have been a scavenger. On the other hand, evidence in favor of it being a predator includes its forward pointing eyes which give better depth perception and make it easier to hunt.

The Velociraptor

Velociraptor is one of the most bird-like dinosaurs ever discovered. It was small and fast, and the sickle-shaped claw on the second toe of each foot made it a formidable predator. A special bone in its wrist allowed it to swivel its wrist sideways in a flapping motion and to fold its arm against its body like a bird. This motion allowed it to snap its arms forward to grab fleeing prey and is an important part of the flight stroke in modern birds.

Spinosaurus....the SPINY !!!

Spinosaurus is a carnivorous dinosaur that lived in what is now Northern Africa during the Cretaceous period—about 110 million years ago. Most scientist agree that this dinosaur probably hunted both on land and in water and probably lived on a diet of both fish and small mammals. It is believed these dinosaurs floated in much the same way that modern crocodiles do; lying in wait and then using the element of surprise to hunt prey. They were first discovered in 1912 in Western Egypt by Richard Markgraf, although this original specimen was destroyed during the bombing of Munich, Germany during World War II. Since then, scientists have had to make due with studying the plaster casts of this animal.

More About Parasaurolophus....

When Parasaurolophus was first discovered, speculation about its bizarre-looking crest ran rampant. Some paleontologists thought this dinosaur spent most of its time underwater, using its hollow head ornament like a snorkel to breathe air, while others proposed that the crest functioned as a weapon during intra-species combat or even had specialized nerve endings that could "sniff out" nearby vegetation.

The Parasaurolophus....

The Parasaurolophus was one of the most recognizable dinosaurs of the Mesozoic Era.
Parasaurolophus is classified as a hadrosaur or duck billed dinosaur, evolved from plant eating ornithopods of the late Jurassic and early Cretaceous.

Computer technology found that Spinosaurus lived 95 to 80 million years ago in the late cretaceous period.
It was the largest meat-eating carnivore in the cretaceous period.
Ernst Stromer named it "spine-oh-sore-us"

pretty cool huh ; )
